Boat skipper diversifies
options wide open.
After seven years in the marine business Mr. Gibbons has set up the already successful Ambassador Marine Services business.
But in case of a lull in that side of his life he has also started Ambassador Landscaping Services and Ambassador Woodworking Services.
Mr. Gibbons said: "I am trying to be as diverse as possible. When there is a soft spot in the charter business it means there is something else I can do.'' The Bermudian 31-year-old returned to the Island seven years ago and worked with charter boats and spent time rebuilding three yachts, including the impressive 38-foot Whistler of Paget .
A fall off in business meant he had to spend some time working as a deckhand on Bermuda Biological Station for Research boats.
Then two years ago he became captain of the Syborata II owned by Salt Kettle Boat Rentals. The boat offers dinner cruises for clients, mainly from exempted companies.
Mr. Gibbons still captains Syborata II but in November he decided to branch out independently. He learned the basics of mechanics at a school in Philadelphia, although he already had a good grounding in the business.
He now offers year round maintenance of yachts and monthly inspections and already has three regular customers. He is also trying to get a vehicle to act as a moving workshop so he can to any part of the Island.
As well as the marine services side of the business Mr. Gibbons has six customers for his landscaping services which includes general property maintenance, planting trees and landscape designs.
