CONCERT ADVICE ENT Visitors to Saturday's soca concert in St. George's are being asked to show consideration to residents.
Police have advised concert-goers of the parking arrangements around St.
George's so they do not block entrances, and have advised them not to leave trash in the area.
The show will be held on the western side of the terminal building on Penno's Wharf, beginning at 8 p.m.
Unlike last year, parking will not be allowed in the area. The main parking will be at Mullet Bay Park with some limited parking behind Belco on Water Street. Police will be on hand to direct traffic.
TREASURE HUNT ENV Keep Bermuda Beautiful members and the public are turning from trash-hunting to treasure-hunting for one night.
September 17 will see a band of hunters setting out on a cruise to an "undisclosed island'', said KBB president Ms Kendaree Burgess-Fairn. The event is a "large fund-raiser'', with real gold and silver jewellery at stake. Young and the Restless star Victoria Rowell will be the host.
Participants will search for treasure certificates, and awards will be presented once night falls, said Ms Burgess-Fairn. "There's a Far Eastern theme, with a feast, music and dancing.'' Tickets go on sale from KBB in late August. Members have ticket priority.
DARING THEFT CRM A daring thief, who managed to steal a purse from a house in Pembroke without entering the premises, ended up empty handed.
Police spokesman P.c. Gary Venning said the female occupant of the house on Point Shares Road "was somewhat surprised that someone was able to remove her purse from the bedroom while she was in the house even though the window is fitted with security bars''.
The thief was able to hook the purse with a long stick and carefully carry it to the window, P.c. Venning said.
But the purse contained no cash and was later recovered with its contents near the scene.
HANDBAG SNATCH CRM A handbag snatcher grabbed a woman's bag while she sat by the cruise ship terminal on Penno's Wharf in St. George's.
The 33-year-old woman was sitting with a friend when the theft occurred during the early hours of yesterday. The bag contained personal items and just $2.50 in cash.
In another incident, a burglar was caught robbing a house in Khyber Heights, Warwick.
The house-owner heard a noise in his bedroom at 1 a.m. yesterday. As he opened the door the intruder ran past him. He escaped with a small amount of jewellery.
PHONE STOLEN CRM A thief took things a little too far at a Chinese takeaway when he snatched the telephone.
The payphone was definitely not on the take-out menu at Chopsticks on Reid Street, Hamilton, but the thief removed it from the take-out area on Wednesday evening.
A Police spokesman said: "It is unlikely the phone will be of any value to the thief as it was recently emptied of cash and cannot be used privately.''*l
