Bermuda has changed over the years but remains one of the world's most beautiful islands.

This is the view of brothers David, Peter and Phil Webster who were on the Island with 20 other members of their family last week to celebrate the 60th birthday of twin brothers David and Peter Zach Webster.

There were three generations of Websters here who came from as far away as San Francisco and Seattle for the occasion.

Peter Webster said he felt the Island was still as beautiful and clean as it ever was and that the people were just as friendly and out going as they had always been.

However Phil Webster said he felt visitors did not see many of the problems the Island was facing unless they were told about it by locals.

He added that people were warning his family to make sure they locked their things, especially their bikes and room doors, which was unnecessary 15 years ago.

He said he noticed the panoramic view from the top of Gibbs Hill Lighthouse had changed from the one 15 years ago because there were a lot more buildings now, especially in Hamilton and Paget.

The tradition of the Webster family visiting the Island began back in the 1930s with the brother's grandfather Charles Webster, a photographer, who visited the Island for a few months at a time to vacation and work.

In fact Charles Webster passed away on the Island when he had a heart attack on Front Street after buying cigars.

Their father Donald also visited the Island regularly and stayed at the Greenbank guest house in Salt Kettle with his wife Eleanor.

Her brother Leon Zach worked for Olmstead Brothers in Boston and helped with the landscaping at Bermuda's prestigious Mid Ocean Club in the 1930s.

Since then the brothers and their respective children have continued to visit the Island.

Phil Webster added that there could have been even more generations of Websters visiting the Island if John Webster had stopped by in 1634 while en route to the US from England.

John Webster, who originally came from Ipswich in England, helped found Ipswich, Massachusetts.
