Popular eatery changes hands
Food with a more Bermudian flavour will be on the menu at two Hamilton take-aways following a buy-out by businessman Steven DeCosta.
Mr. DeCosta has operated the Eat-N-Run mobile catering service for the past two years, specialising in delivering food to hungry construction workers.
Now he has taken over Oliver's in Pitts Bay Road and Duffy's Delicatessen on Wesley Street.
As well as promising more Bermudian dishes such as spiced chicken and fishcakes, Mr. DeCosta said he will be offering breakfasts and lowering prices to entice customers.
He intends changing the name of Duffy's to Island Flavours to reflect the move towards more authentic Bermudian cuisine.
Mr. DeCosta said he wasn't initially looking to buy Oliver's, although he was looking for somewhere to source the food he was selling at Eat-N-Run.
But he found out Oliver's was sale and Duffy's was part of the same company, which he bought from Henry Cox at the beginning of this month.
"It was an ideal package that the two companies came together," said Mr. DeCosta.
"I'll be changing the style of food to become more island type and we are going to do breakfasts such as pancakes and bacon and eggs. "I'm going to bring the prices down, which is also good. Oliver's is going really well and we're only really in the first week."
The Robin Hood could soon change hands.
Long Botham Boats Company Ltd. bosses are holding a special general meeting on Thursday to consider a resolution to buy the bar in Richmond Road. Long Botham already run Southampton pub and restaurant Henry VIII.
The meeting, to be held at the Henry VIII, was advertised in yesterday's The Royal Gazette and revealed the deal would be backed by the Bank of NT Butterfield.
Long Botham Director Paul King did not return calls yesterday while Robin Hood co-owner Paul (Chopper) Harris refused to comment.
