Small business owners to share success stories

Small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs will gather tomorrow for a breakfast seminar to listen to how some Bermudians have made it on their own.

?The Smartest Decision I Ever Made? will feature half a dozen Bermudians who own their own businesses and will share their success stories with others keen to learn their secrets of success.

?It will be an interesting morning,? said organiser Neville Grant, general manager of the Bermuda Small Business Development Corporation. ?Everyone has a different idea of success. For some it is financial success or is making a go of it on their own, for others it is to work with their spouse, and for others it is making more time for their families.?

Each of the participants owns their own business and will give their perspective for going it alone ? and the struggles they have had to get there.

And each will speak about the pivotal moment when they made that decision, or had a situation thrust upon them ? and the best decision they ever made or the best thing they ever did.

Organisers, who are hosting the free event 8.30 a.m. at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess, say they hope to get between 50 and 100 participants joining them for breakfast.

?All you need is one idea and a lot of luck,? said Mr. Grant. ?And behind every great idea or great business is a seed or a moment that started it all off. That is what the speakers will be addressing at the seminar.?

Mr. Grant said that they were hoping to give tomorrow?s businessmen and women tips and tools that will make them be able to go out there and make a go of it and then make good business decisions while there.

?So we thought it would be good to get people to say what the best decision they ever made,? said Mr. Grant. ?We had a seminar a year ago called ?What Does Success Mean to Me?? and it was a great hit. We wanted to keep it loose again this year to allow people to tell their stories.?

Speaking at the seminar will be Greg Wilson, owner manager of restaurant Greg?s Steakhouse, Doris Brooks, owner manager of Double Dip Express, Jenefer Brimmer, owner manager of Thermax Bermuda and Bermuda Allergy and Asthma Relief Centre, Romano Ramirez, owner manager of Crafty Carpenters, Clevie Simmons, owner manager of Auto Star Ltd. and Karen Tensae owner manager of Windsor Garden Restaurant.

?Each one is different and has a different kind of business, and each has their own story about how they got started,? said Mr. Grant.
