Coral Cable Network Ltd. has applied to the Telecommunications Commission for a TV service.

And the Commission will be hearing the application on Tuesday afternoon at Cathedral Hall.

An application by North Rock Communications Ltd. to offer Internet services will also be heard.

North Rock is a wholly owned subsidiary of North Rock Venture Inc., a Bermudian company that also owns Applied Computer Technologies Ltd. and computer product and supplies retailer, The Complete Office (see story on Page 11) .

Coral Cable is a business venture launched by Bermudian architectural designer Stephen West and some American associates.

"We are applying for 30-plus channels,'' Mr. West said.

Representing Coral Cable at Tuesday's hearing will be David Kessaram, from law firm Cox and Wilkinson.

He said the company -- using a "microwave system'' -- eventually expected to have close to 50 channels, beaming in programmes from the US and Canada. It is expected Coral will use Cable & Wireless facilities.

Telecommunications Minister John Barritt said: "The application from Coral Cable came in and, as is the normal course of events, they have been told what they need to have for the purposes of going to the Telecommunications Commission.'' Mr. Barritt said the Telecommunications Commission had already recommended that another company, Hardell Entertainment, receive a licence to bring 22 new TV channels to Bermuda.

"Hardell has got approval in principle from the Commission and the Minister.

Now we have got to issue a licence and we are just sorting out some technical difficulties.''
