Man charged with attacking councillor

A man has been charged with an attack that left a Hamilton councillor with serious injuries.

Ottis Walter Bell, 61, from Devonshire, appeared in Magistrates’ Court this morning charged with wounding RoseAnn Edwards with intent to cause her grievous bodily harm on Tuesday.

Mr Bell was not required to enter a plea as the matter must be heard in the Supreme Court. No application for bail was made, and he remained silent throughout proceedings.

Magistrate Archibald Warner sent the matter to the Supreme Court for the session starting next month. Mr Bell remains remanded in custody.
