One thousand toys will be given to disadvantaged children this Christmas, thanks to an initiative by real estate company Coldwell Banker.

Toys for Tots 2015 collected unopened gifts for youngsters aged from newborn to 16, which went to the Coalition for the Protection of Children on Friday.

The children will receive their presents at a festive party this Sunday at St John’s Preschool, and will then wait until Christmas Day to open them — in theory, at least.

Among those who made donations to Coldwell Banker’s annual Christmas campaign were law firm Wakefield Quin.

Nicholas Hoskins, the company’s managing director, thanked staff members for their kindness.

“It is very sad to think that there are so many children around the world who will not be unwrapping a gift this year,” he said.

“We hope that our small contribution will bring some Christmas cheer to children in our Bermuda community during this holiday season.”

Sarah Faiella, from Coldwell Banker, said the company hugely appreciated the “heart-warming” response, helping it to reach its 1,000-toy goal.

“All thanks to the amazing support of our community,” she said.

“We couldn’t have done this without the generosity of the individuals, corporate entities and schools who got involved, as well as those who participated as drop-off locations. You’ve given not only a gift but a special moment to a child in need.”

Kelly Hunt, the director of child and adolescent services at the Coalition for the Protection of Children, said: “The response has been simply amazing.

“Despite people’s own circumstances, they are still willing to think of others and provide for our children.

“It’s the kind of giving back that makes our Island home so special. Thank you.”
