Hodsoll suffers football injury

Spell on sidelines: Hodsoll picked up a knee injury while playing in the Corona League

Kyle Hodsoll, one of the top bowlers during last season, has picked up a knee injury while playing for Tuff Dogs in the Corona League that could sideline him for some time.

Hodsoll injured his left knee in a tackle while playing against Robin Hood and is set to visit his doctor today to have the injury further assessed.

“I’m not too sure what it is right now, I’m going to the doctor tomorrow to find out what’s going on,” Hodsoll said. “I can walk, I’m just wearing a brace right now.”

Hodsoll was the joint highest wicket-taker in the Premier Division last season with 26 wickets in nine league matches for Bailey’s Bay at an average of 7.77, sharing the top spot with Derrick Brangman of Southampton Rangers.

Luckily for the seam bowler, the injury has come in cricket’s off-season, giving him plenty of time to recover in time for next summer.

“Lot of relief on that one,” Hodsoll said about the timing of the injury.

“I was just doing it [playing football] to keep fit during the off-season, to keep me active and once everything gets better I’ll rethink it,” he added.

“I’ve got time to get fit, I’ve been going to physio since this happened. I still do workouts in the gym, so it shouldn’t be long before I get back to myself.”

The St George’s Cup Match player was been awarded the Bermuda Friendly Societies Association’s Sportsmanship Award for his conduct during Cup Match when he “best exemplified the principles of good sportsmanship and fair play throughout the 2015 Annual Cricket Classic”.

Hodsoll claimed four wickets for 20 runs in the Somerset first innings, although in a losing cause as Somerset won the match by eight wickets, their first victory at Wellington Oval since 1981.

He was the key bowler for Bailey’s Bay as they beat Southampton Rangers to win the Twenty20 final in September.
