Alyssa Rose admits she is nervous in the lead-up to the Miss World Competition in December but said: “I think that’s a good thing.”

While choosing her wardrobe at AS Cooper, the reigning Miss Bermuda told The Royal Gazette: “It’s all happening so fast. It feels like only yesterday that I won.”

She will leave Bermuda on November 19 to begin preparation for the final competition on December 19 in Sanya, China.

Contestants will be judged during the five preliminary rounds and the multimedia award will begin on December 1.

“I’m judged on my interaction with the public. It’s my Miss World Bermuda Page and I’m judged on my posts about myself, my family, the host venue. They really want to see that we are getting to know the place we’re going.

“We also have the Miss World Sports Competition where you’re judged on your physical fitness.”

Miss Rose has been training with Beyond Fitness on Par-la-Ville Road.

“I’ve been running every day. I’ve been eating well. Healthy mind, healthy body — trying to get that balance.

“There’s also the ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ section, which is based on your charity work. I’ve been working with the Dame Marjorie Bean Academy and their associated charity is Friends of Hope.

“Hopefully we can get them some attention on a worldwide scale.

For the talent category, she has been working with Emily Polasik, a teacher at Jackson’s School of Dance.

This year sees the end of the popular but outdated swimsuit category, but Miss Rose is not disappointed.

“I think Julia Morley who’s the coordinator for the miss world pageant wanted to erase that stigma. That’s why they eliminated that section, which is a shame for some people because they enjoy it but for others it’s a benefit and a positive step toward feminism.

“I don’t mind at all. I can eat a few more doughnuts than I normally would,” she said, laughing.

“I’ve never been to that side of the world, so I’m excited to even have that opportunity to travel that far.

“Everyone’s telling me I’m going to have a little bit of a culture shock, but I want that.

“At this point in my life, that’s what I’m ready for and to meet 125 other women from all round the world will be an amazing experience.

“I’m just looking to represent us well.”
