US tourist injured after break-in at Fairmont Hamilton
MONDAY, NOVEMBER 22: A 67-year-old US tourist was injured after confronting a man who broke into his hotel room, Police said this afternoon.
At 3.15am today, someone broke into a room at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess and was confronted by the guests — the 67-year-old man and his 65-year-old wife.
A Police spokesman said: “The intruder made good his escape after a scuffle with the male visitor in the room. The visitor received minor injuries to his arm but declined medical treatment. His wife was not injured.
“A wallet containing personal items was removed from the room. The surrounding area was thoroughly searched by officers however the burglar was not located. The suspect is described as a dark skinned male approximately 5ft 10in with blotches on his face wearing a green T-shirt, tan coloured pants and sneakers.”
The spokesman added: “While not ruling anything out, it is too early to say whether this incident may be linked to any similar burglaries.
“Residents and visitors alike are reminded that all windows and doors should be locked before leaving their property/guest property unattended, even for short periods of time. Also, before retiring to bed at night all windows and doors should be locked; valuables should be kept secure and out of sight.
“The public is encouraged to report any suspicious activities or individuals to Police on 295-0011.”
