Father admits third driving while banned offence

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 25: A father was given a suspended sentence this morning after he admitted his third offence of driving while disqualified.

Kofi Dill, 31, also pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court to violently resisting arrest and threatening officers after he was stopped.

According to Crown counsel Kristy-Ann Keillor, police stopped Dill on November 24 for driving while disqualified but as soon as he was pulled over, he began to unleash a torrent of profanities.

When officers attempted to handcuff him, he lashed out, striking one officer in the face.

While Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner warned him that driving while disqualified was seen as being contemptuous of court, both Dill and Duty counsel Leo Mills pleaded for lenience, saying he was almost entirely responsible for taking care of his youngest child.

Mr Warner sentenced Dill to three months imprisonment, suspended for two years, and ordered he pay a total of $2,500 by Christmas.
