Police officers charged with domestic violence

Two police officers have been charged with domestic violence, against each other.Hashim Estwick, of Warwick, and Marina Jean-Pierre, appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday over the April 7 offence at a Warwick residence.Mr Estwick, 48, denied assaulting and causing bodily harm to Ms Jean-Pierre, 33, who also denied committing the same offences against her fellow officer.A number of police officers were in court for yesterday’s proceedings, where both defendants opted to stand trial when the case returns to court on August 19.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner released the pair on $1,000 bail, and also ordered hem to stay away from each other.A Bermuda Police Service spokesman would not say whether there are any internal disciplinary proceedings as a result of the case, nor confirm any other details about the two officers. The spokesman did say however, that the Service’s rules dictate that no one with a criminal conviction is allowed to serve as an officer with the Bermuda Police Service.
