Fight Night is back

In just ten days, Bermuda?s best ? and newest ? boxers will do battle in Number One Shed as Fight Night returns to Bermuda.

The eighth edition of the popular fight fest, which regularly attracts more than 1,000 fanatical fans, will be staged next Saturday with 13 bouts already on the card that range from experienced fighters to first-time pugilists.

The event, moved back a month from its usual February timeslot due to renovations to the venue, will return to its successful amateur format this year following last year?s pro fight for Teresa Perozzi ? a controversial victory over Elizabeth Kerin.

?We are going back to the amateur format,? said Nir Sadeh, organiser of the annual Teachers Rugby Club fundraiser which launched the careers of boxers of the calibre of Perozzi and Sharieff Wales.

?It was great to have a pro fight for Teresa last year and we looked at doing something this time around but we couldn?t find a suitable opponent for her and the timescale wasn?t quite right.

?We are returning to the amateur format and we can expect the usual entertaining mix of Bermuda?s best fighters and some guys going at it for the first time.

?But the new guys aren?t completely green, I know they have been training hard for the past few three or four months and we can expect to see some great fights.

?Last year we had to turn away about 500 people on the night so we would urge people to get their tickets as soon as possible.?

The card is heavier than usual, with plenty of heavyweight and superheavyweight fights this time around but it also lightens up with a women?s fight which will see Shameen Iqbal take on Robyn Swan.

The main highlights of the evening see Andre Bean and Arizona State Champion Kejon Trott go head to head in a re-match.

Even while they were waiting for a decision from their last fight in February, they agreed they would clash again and the middleweight contest is the penultimate bout of the evening.

The night closes out with Joshua Smith and Leo Richardson battling it out for a third time. The heavyweight fighters have won one each and the final fight is expected to have all the blood, guts and glory of a typical night at the Number One Shed.

Tickets are $40 in advance from Arcade Barber Shop, Docksiders, International Sports Shop, The Pro Shop, C-Mart, Sports ?R? Us, Music World and Teachers RFC and $50 on the door, while supplies last.
