Irish internationals fly in for Easter Classic ?revival?

The good old days of the Easter Classic will be relived this weekend in a smaller format as Ireland ?A? internationals and Heineken Cup winners Sheldon Coulter and Andy Park join local Irishmen in the Bermuda International Sevens tournament.

Local internationals Mike Cane and Jonathan Cassidy are among the Bermuda Irish RFC who will see their ranks bolstered by the visitors for Saturday?s event at the the North Field, National Sports Centre.

For 20 years up to 1994, bringing Ireland?s best to compete alongside Irish Bermudians against some of the world?s best alongside other Bermudians was the norm for the Easter event, the spirit of which this second edition of the Sevens tournament is seeking to capture.

The Irish side will take on the four local sides and another touring side, the Guanos from England.

Managed by the brother of national coach Pete Shillingford, the Guanos are a charity side made up of a number of pros including England international Mark Linnett.

The prop won?t be taking part in Saturday?s event, instead just sticking to his normal position in a 15-a-side game tomorrow against a Bermuda Select at the North Field at 6 p.m.

On Saturday, the teams are split into two three-team pools for the afternoon tournament, ending in play-offs and a final which kicks off at 5.30 p.m.

A mini-rugby display and a schools game will also take place during the event which begins at 12.30 p.m.

The dates for the World Cup qualifiers have now been confirmed with Bermuda taking on Jamaica, Barbados and the Bahamas in Nassau on June 5-11.

The winners of the group then taken on the winners of the Caribbean South group at a neutral venue with a place in the ?Group of Death? alongside USA and Canada then at stake.
