An invitation to hear directly from Park Hyatt hotel developer

Future vision: An artist's rendition of how the planned Park Hyatt hotel and resort in the east end will look when completed. The community has been invited to attend a meeting with the hotel developer next month.

The St. George's community will soon have the opportunity to speak with the developer of the Park Hyatt hotel planned for the East End.

The Corporation of St. George is hosting a public meeting with Carl Bazarian and his team on October 4.

Mayor of St. George Kenneth Bascome said he thought it was important that the developer remain in contact with the community.

"Notices have already been sent to all of the registered voters in the Town of St. George's so we're hoping that the meeting will be very well attended," he said.

The meeting will give the public the chance to learn more about the large-scale project planned on the former Club Med site, and to voice any concerns they may have.

"It's an open public meeting, and everyone is invited," Mr. Bascome said. "This is going to affect the entire Island, so anyone can come and have their voices heard.

"I have already voiced one concern regarding the staff quarters being outside of the existing area, but whatever the end result is, I feel that this will be a real boon to St. George's and the Country as a whole."

Plans for the resort, which will contain 122 hotel beds spread between eight buildings, were submitted to the Department of Planning earlier this month.

The designs also include 12 four-bedroom homes, 70 condominium units, 39 villas, a fitness centre and a spa.

The cost of the project has been estimated at around $294 million.

• The meeting will be held at the Penno's Wharf Cruise Ship Terminal at 7.30 p.m.
