Under-17s suffer heavy loss
Jamaica 5 Bermuda 0Bermuda Under-17s crashed to a heavy defeat in their opening World Cup football qualifier against Jamaica in Kingston on Wednesday night.Scott Morton’s side, who have been grouped with the hosts and Antigua and Barbuda, made a poor start to the game and were two goals down by half-time.A misplaced kick by Bermuda goalkeeper Jahquil Hill went straight to Jamaica striker Jaheel Hyde who made no mistake to give the hosts the lead.Ten minutes later, Hyde doubled his side’s advantage as Jamaica took a firm grip on the game before half-time.Jamaica added a third goal in the 51st minute when Junior Flemmings fired home, and nine minutes later Hyde completed his hat-trick to hand side an unassailable lead.In the 70th minute, Michael Seaton completed the rout with his team’s fifth goal.Morton’s side must top a group reduced to three teams, Jamaica, Bermuda, and Antigua and Barbuda, after Anguilla dropped out to automatically qualify for the next stage.The best second placed team of the five groups will also advance.Bermuda face Antigua and Barbuda in their final group game tonight.Bermuda: Jahquil Hill, Alanzo Parsons, Zaire Burchall, Terrence Webb, Shane Simmons, Tah-mi Williams, Machi Battersbee, Ras Stafari Burrows, Trey Tucker, Nacori Smith, Rai SimmonsSubstitutes: Deitre Bell, Jabri Lawrence-Salaam, Omari Curtis, David Jones Jr., Jaz Smith-Ratteray, Aiyetoro Hinds, Marlon Burgess
