A true ambassadorJanuary 15, 2010Dear Sir,

A true ambassador

January 15, 2010

Dear Sir,

I am writing to commend Mr. Wayne Robinson, of CableVision for an outstanding installation at our home this week.

He was kind, courteous and very knowledgeable about the product he was installing. It reminded me that Bermuda does indeed have some true ‘ambassadors’ of this wonderful nation.

A public hindrance

January 16, 2010

Dear Sir,

After waiting for what seemed an interminable time for our UK cheque books to arrive we finally called the bank to ascertain their whereabouts, only to find that they been “Returned to Sender”, for the heinous crime of omitting FL05 from the address. We have lived in our house for over 40 years, and the local postal employees know us very well. However, we cannot blame them. They were following orders.

On receipt of our returned cheque books, the UK bank immediately put a freeze on our bank account. This meant any transactions we tried, using our UK credit card over the Christmas period, including making a donation in memory of a stillborn baby, were not honoured, causing us embarrassment.

It must take more time for the Post Office to “Return to Sender”, than to actually deliver the mail. They are supposed to be a public service, not a hindrance.

Love and God

January 14, 2010

Dear Sir,

I hope the community of Bermuda is drawing closer to their neighbours and loving their daily trash truck driver as you’re loving yourselves:

1. Lack of love is often easy to justify, even though it is never right.

2. Our neighbour is anyone of any race, creed, or social background who is in need.

3. Love means acting to meet the person’s need. Where you live, needy people are close by. There is no good reason for refusing to help.

We should be treating all foreigners and their families as though you attended primary school with them or their children. Love within itself has no boundaries, because God is love. Our love can’t be that of the weather, meaning that we can not spread love on Front Street and not show a drop of it on Court Street. We can not turn the other cheek knowing that the “Ulterior Motive” of our action: was only to avoid seeing a family member, a person in which you owe money, Jehovah Witnesses knocking at your door etc…

To my misbelief after playing music for a New Year’s party I tried to get a taxi west, and fortunately there was a taxi parked outside of the club. From a distance I couldn’t observe that the driver was WIDE OPEN….intoxicated! Mmm… So he shouts back to me after I shout out “taxi going west…”. “You need to pay me up front”.

Well, you know I had to show my complexion by standing in the middle of the left side of the road while he pulled out, and now coming in my direction. I had my wallet in my right hand and my money in my left signaling him towards me like I worked on the runway at the airport. He stops next to me and says once again, but louder this time “You need to pay me up front”. I swallowed so hard that I thought I lost my Adams Apple! Only through the love and fear for God that I have I didn’t allow Lucifer to manifest in my temple. I could have pulled him out of his taxi, gave him a little act right (licks) and drove him to the Police Station myself for trying to put my life in a direct path of danger.

Lucifer, I know that you’re out to get me and the temptations that you constantly place in front of me used to get the better part of me, but I know you’ve already planned your next attack. I’ll continue to be under the wings of protection, God has for me and continue trying to do his will…
