Volunteers needed for Grand Slam
To-A-Tee- Bermuda, local facilitators for the PGA Grand Slam of Golf at Mid Ocean Club, yesterday renewed pleas for committee volunteers to offer their services to help make October's three-day event a smooth one.
Volunteer positions currently available include corporate hospitality services, marshals, spectator services, rope and stake.
Those interested in volunteering for this year's event can sign up online at www.pgagrandslamofgolf.com or can request an application by calling (561) 624-8519 or (441) 295-4640.
Volunteers will be required to participate for two of the three days of the championship, but should be flexible to meet the needs of their assigned committee before, during, and after the event.
In addition, all volunteers for the 2008 PGA Grand Slam of Golf are required to pay a volunteer uniform fee of $50 and in return will receive two golf shirts, shorts and headwear, food and beverage vouchers as well as complimentary off-site parking complete and shuttle service to and from the championship.
"I think it's a great opportunity for anybody who wants to see the action up front. There's definitely a lot of benefits from being a volunteer plus you get to be up close to the players," said To-A-Tee Bermuda owner Alex Madeiros.
Currently, 175 volunteers have already offered their services this year, but according to Madeiros at least another 80 will be required to ensure the event runs efficiently.
"We are still in need of some 80 volunteers because we need to have 250.
"So if anyone has the time off and is available, those three days will be a great experience for them," Madeiros added.
"The benefits here are unbelievable to Bermuda and I think Bermudians need to rally around the PGA Grand Slam of Golf because last year's event was fantastic. "We have already proven through our hospitality, golf course and people that we can host a fantastic PGA Grand Slam of Golf and I don't see any reason why we cannot do it again this year.
"This event is going to put a lot of money into the economy and give Bermuda and Bermudians exposure and so we need to get behind it and give it our support."
