Classic reels in $3m
The Bermuda Big Game Fishing Classic held earlier this month generated an estimated $3 million in revenue for Bermuda over the course of four days.
With more than 46 boats, the Big Game Fishing Classic has grown to become one of the Sports Fishing industry's most desirable events.
Tourism Minister Ewart Brown said sport fishing vessels sailed in from all over the US, some months in advance, while their owners flew in on private jets to participate in the event.
"Attendees of the event continue to be pleased with the abundance of Blue Marlin in Bermuda's waters," he said.
Dr. Brown said another record was set this year by one of the visiting fisherman who landed a 1,023 pound Marlin.
The Big Game Fishing Classic was the highlight of the newly introduced Bermuda Triple Crown Billfish Championship which ends at the weekend.
Cabinet gets survey
Government's affordable housing survey is to be discussed at next week's Cabinet meeting.
Premier Alex Scott will be off the Island next week, but the survey, which has been released to Cabinet by Housing Minister Ashfield DeVent is on the agenda for consideration by Deputy Premier Ewart Brown.
It is not known when or what portions of the study will be released to the public.
Mr. DeVent told The Royal Gazette the study would provide a concrete plan to provide more affordable rental units the average Bermudian could afford.
The study examines the environmental impact of affordable housing, income levels of individuals in need of affordable units, money management, and cross-ministry initiatives to reduce bureaucracy and enable people who struggle to pay rent from falling into arrears.
