INMATES TO HELP WITH REFORESTATION JAL Inmates to help with reforestation It could be called "killing two birds with one stone'' as Government plans to use prison inmates to start a reforesting programme this month.

The project will see inmates at the Prison Farm construct slat houses to contain cedar and citrus tree saplings.

According to a release from Senior Plant Protection Officer, Terry-Lynn Thompson, the project will not only result in "the propagation of cedar and citrus trees'' but also "the eventual release into society of people who have acquired new skills in that area''.

Citrus tree propagation is considered a specialist horticultural area.

Fruit-bearing citrus cannot be grown straight from seed and cuttings from the trees at the Prison Farm will be grafted onto root stock being grown at Government's Tulo Valley Plant Nursery.
