has recently been selected as the Wing Commander at Florida Air Academy.

Cadet Major Ming became Wing Commander on May 22 and will be the first in command of the entire Florida Air Academy Corps of Cadets, which consists of approximately 390 students.

His leadership role would affect the day to day lives of cadets, "from discipline to eating and even getting to bed on time,'' he said. In addition, Ming will attend a Leadership Course at Macdill Air Force Base this August. He was one of 45 cadets selected from a pool of 400.

Cadet Major Ming, 17 and a former student of Gilbert Institute and Warwick Academy, transferred to Florida Air Academy in 1995 after coming to an agreement with his parents.

"My parents and I decided that going away to school would be better for me, as there would be more opportunities and a bit of discipline too.'' Florida Air Academy, located in Melbourne, Florida, is a private college preparatory school for young men aged 12 through 19 (grades 7 through 12). At the military school, students wake at 6 a.m. each morning and must arrange their clothes in a specified order. As a military school, students take traditional subjects, but also pursue other avenues including Air Force Junior ROTC Education, flight training, and aerospace science.

The majority of graduates from Florida Air Academy attend a traditional college or university, with five or so each year enrolling in military schools such as West Point. Most graduates pursue careers in aeronautics, business, or military service.

Cadet Major Ming is the son of Calvin, Jr. and Juanita Ming of Warwick. He will graduate from Florida Air Academy in June, 1999. An official for the Academy said: "Cadet Major Ming's outstanding performance combined with his academic achievements, while serving in the Corps of Cadets at Florida Air Academy, reflects great credit upon himself, his family, and his hometown community of Bermuda.'' Asked about the main lesson he has learned at the Academy, Mr. Ming said: "Don't take the simple things in life for granted.'' Cadet Major Calvin Ming
