Hickmott on target in season-opener

Bermuda's darts season got underway at BAA on Monday with Steve Hickmott lifting the first trophy in the 'Luck of the Draw' tournament.

Hickmott defeated Simon (Stubby) Carruthers 2-0 in the final.

A field of 36 produced some impressive play with Hickmott and Carruthers leading the way.

After taking the first leg in the final, Hickmott then fired 140, 100, 100 to leave a 161 finish after nine darts. Carruthers could only leave himself a 109 finish after 12 darts.

Hickmott then hit treble 20 (60), treble 17 (51) only to see his third dart bounce out of the bullseye.

Carruthers was then unlucky not to take out his 109, hitting treble 20, single nine, leaving double top which he missed with his third effort.

Hickmott made him pay as he hit single 10 and double top to take the title.
