Anthony Mocklow is determined to focus on having fun and won’t be getting ahead of himself as he goes into today’s third round of the Gosling’s Invitational in a five-way tie for the lead.Mocklow carded a two-over par 72 yesterday and is two-under for the tournament alongside Billy Walsh, Kirk Hanefeld, Joe Horowitz and Matt Hoffman.Of the five, only Hanefeld broke 70 and his three-under par 67 yesterday was the low round on a difficult day when only four of the 50 golfers in the professional division shot below par.Nick Kenney and Matthew Sita are tied for second a shot futher back and with the likes of Dwayne Pearman, Terence Daniels and Bermuda Open winner Jordan Mitchell all level-par for the tournament just two shots separate the top 11 golfers.With the likes of Brian McCann, PH Horgan III and Daniel Augustus at two-over the leader could still come from any one of 17 golfers, and even Brennan Webb, who is five shots off the lead, will fancy his chances.At one-over through nine, Mocklow was out in front on his own yesterday at three-under but a double-bogey at the last pulled him back into the pack and left him wondering what might have been.“It was windy out there and 18 was playing 500 yards long, it was just a brutal golf hole,” he said. “Looking at the scoreboard there were more eights on 18 than anything.“Am I disappointed . . . I think the worse I should have been was 70, but I’ll take 72 and run and, you know . . . for the first time I have the golf ball in control, which is nice, and I’m making a few putts.”More importanly the Director of Golf for Fairmont Southampton and Riddell’s Bay is enjoying his golf again, and while a Bermudian hasn’t won the tournament since Pearman’s triumph in the late 1990s all Mocklow is doing is focusing on having fun.“I’m enjoying playing golf, I’m enjoying hitting golf shots, I’m enjoying feeling good about my game,” he said. “If it all comes to nothing, no big deal, it’s fun and I’m trying to stay that way, stay focused.”Mocklow will play with Hoffman and Kenney today, while Horowitz, Hanefeld and Walsh, the last three winners of the tournament, go out in the final group.“It’ll be a nice experience,” said Mocklow. “I think that’s what any player wants to do, is play with people that are good players and test yourself. For a guy like me that works a lot of hours during the week and doesn’t get a lot of chances to play, this is kind of fun.“So I’ll stay fun, stay in the moment, not get ahead of myself and enjoy it. It is what it is, and this is why we play the game.”Ian Page has slightly more breathing room in the Open Division than his professional colleagues. A second round three-over par 74 leaves him at nine-over for the tournament, three shots ahead of Shannon Trott, with Gray Yancey back in third at 15-over.In the Seniors Division, Hav Trott and Max Atherden rolled back the years yesterday with a pair of 68s, putting Jeffrey Lindo’s title under real threat.Lindo is chasing his fifth consecutive Gosling’s win this week but at 10-over par following a second successive round of 75 has a lot of work ahead of him.Atherden leads the way in the Senior Division at five-over with Trott three shots further back. The trio will play in the same group together today when the wind and rain are once again expected to play a big part in the outcome.
