Swimmer Blackburn grabs two gold medals

Bermuda national team swimmer Lisa Blackburn has claimed two gold medals in her first international meet at the Caribbean Island Swimming Championships (CISC) in Cuba, writes Derek deChabert

Blackburn has grabbed golds in the 18 and over category in both the 200 metre individual medley and 100m breaststroke, dropping seven seconds off her fastest time of the season.

Olympians Kiera Aitken and Roy Allen Burch have also enjoyed medal success, both winning bronzes in the 50m freestyle in the 18 and over division.

Today's day three of the event will see Rebecca Heyliger, Sharpe, Aitken and Nick Thomson take to the pool in the 50m backstroke, and Morgan Hopkins and Julian Fletcher in the 50m breaststroke.

Emma Franklin will compete in the 200m backstroke, while Sharpe, Blackburn, Aitken and Eleanor Gardner will be in action in the Individual Medley relay.

Head coach Ben Smith said: "The Bermuda Amateur Swimming Association is very proud of the national team's result so far and the CISC results bode well for the CAC Games coming up in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico."
