Dear Sir,
The words by coach Keishon Smith in yesterday's article ring loud and clear!
The lack of respect by players that plagues Bermuda football is perpetuated by coaches who field players despite having not trained regularly, despite demonstrating a bad attitude and despite not being committed to the team.
Over the years this selfish trend by the club coaches has drastically damaged the game in Bermuda.
The win-at-all-costs mindset has brought good players into bad habits and chased developing players out of the game. It is well known that many teams in the BFA leagues do not train regularly after the Christmas break as the players who have established a starting spot hold the coaches at ransom.
Whatever happened to 'if you don't train regularly you won't play no matter who you are?'
The quality of football played in the leagues reflects it.
Players who lack respect and discipline seldom deliver a quality performance regularly. It's time that regulations be implemented to curb the trend as the clubs have demonstrated they refuse to make a stand in the best interests of the game.
Hopefully coach Keishon Smith's words are the first step in the right direction for the ISL and the BFA.
LOVER OF THE GAME
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to voice my utter disappointment in the recent debacle of the Bailey's Bay cricket team where victory ( in the Eastern Counties) was attainable.
My disappointment does not lie with the team itself, but with the selectors.
In recent years the selectors have opted to not include the explosive bat of Charlie Marshall and his nephew Jemeiko (Marshall).
This game is more than a game to us Bailey's Bay fans. It is about passion, pride and glory. If asked which trophy is preferred, all Bay fans would reply Eastern Counties.
So when the team takes the field, they are not just representing Bailey's Bay but the whole of Hamilton Parish.
So in the future, could these selectors not be so biased when selecting an Eastern Counties team but think of the good of all at Bay, and pick the strongest team possible whether guest players are included or not.
When it is all said and done, the only ones the selectors are hurting I themselves while waiting a whole year for the Eastern Counties.
