E-commerce camp a success
success by participants and providers.
The week long course was specifically designed to introduce Bermudian teenagers to the expanding fields of e-commerce business.
Sponsored by the Bank of Bermuda, the course is normally taught over a three week period by the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) at Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts.
The Ministry of Telecommunications and Government's E-commerce Advisory Board in conjunction with Babson College Alumni Club of Bermuda, persuaded NFTE to design the special pilot camp.
Students learned about banking facilities, break-even analyses, business cards, credit facilities, the difference between an employee and an entrepreneur, income statements, opportunity recognition, market research and pricing strategy.
The week-long camp culminated with student finalists presenting their business plans in a competition held at the Bank of Bermuda on Friday.
Winners will receive $500 for first place, $300 for second, and $200 for third.
Clearly pleased with the programme sponsors have revealed that it will run again next year.
"E-commerce is one of Bermuda's fast-growing fields,'' said Doug Selley, vice president, business banking manager at the Bank of Bermuda.
"We are pleased to have provided these young Bermudians with the opportunity to be taught about the entrepreneurial framework that is becoming indigenous to Bermuda.''
