Over the October school break, 19 SGY (Saltus Graduate Years) students — along with Deputy Head of School Jon Beard, Art Head and SGY2 Year Coordinator Fiona Murdoch, plus Head of PE Tim Figureido — travelled to Canada on the annual Saltus university tour.

Students covered a lot of ground visiting 19 colleges and universities from New Brunswick and Nova Scotia to those in the Toronto area to near Niagara Falls – all in less than eight days.

SGY students toured the following: Dalhousie University, St Mary’s University, Acadia University, Mount Allison University, University of New Brunswick, St Thomas University, York University, Ryerson, Humber College, University of Toronto, University of Waterloo, Brock University, Wilfrid Laurier University, Trent University, Queen’s University, University of Western Ontario, King’s University College at Western, University of Guelph and Sheridan College.

In addition, Saltus alumni got together at events in Halifax, Waterloo and Toronto. SGY students commented that the trip was very informative and helped them to clarify their decision about which colleges or universities would be a good fit for them. To be able to walk around a university that is in session with a student guide, to see the facilities and accommodation, to meet Saltus alums who are in those universities, and receive presentations from university admissions staff is invaluable for our students.

Also, to have the opportunity to chat about the universities with their peers and experienced staff was terrific bonus. Now the application process begins.

For more details on the Saltus Graduate Years programme, you are cordially invited to the SGY Information Session on Thursday, November 13, 4-6pm (presentation at 5.15pm) and the SGY Taster Morning on Thursday, November 20, 8.45-10.30am. Or call 292-6177 ext. 6280.
