Aitken sets new national mark
freestyle during the first night of competition at the Ralph Hicken Memorial three-day meet in Toronto, Canada last night.
Aitken, who is now seeded fourth going into tonight's final, set a new mark of 1:02.18 which shaved 0.12 seconds off Tamika Williams' previous record. The time is also an improvement by one-and-a-half seconds on the 13-14 year age group record set by Alex Dowling in 1987. Five more Bermuda swimmers have now qualified for the Caribbean Islands swimming championships -- Scott Simmons, James Cowen, Steven Kenny, Kiera Aitken and Andrew Shaw. Today's second day of competition will see heats in the morning and the finals tonight.
FOLLOW LIGHTBOURNE LIVE ON RADIO SOC Follow Lightbourne live on radio Kyle Lightbourne and his Stoke City team play the home leg of their Division Two promotion play-off semi-final against Gillingham tomorrow -- and ZBM will be broadcasting live commentary on the match on 1340 radio.
Nick Jones, of ZBM, said coverage of the match at Stoke's Britannia Stadium, starting at 10.45 a.m., would be provided by BBC Radio Stoke.
"Their sports editor Graham McGarry has assured us he will try to get an interview with Kyle after the game,'' added Jones.
An aggregate victory after next week's second leg at Gillingham would send Stoke and Lightbourne to Wembley for the second time in successive months, following their 2-1 victory in the Auto Windscreens Shield final against Bristol City.
There they would meet either Wigan or Millwall, with a place in the First Division at stake.
