Teen charged with attempted murder
A teenager has denied trying to shoot a couple dead as they left Southside Cinema last November 13.
Sanchey Grant, 19, from Warwick, is accused of attempting to murder Devonshire Cougars player Shaki Minors and his pregnant girlfriend Renee Kuchler, a teacher.
The pair were shot around 11.20 p.m as they left a late showing of the film 'Precious'. They were rushed to hospital but have since recovered from their injuries.
Grant is further accused of possessing a firearm and ammunition.
He pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Chief Justice Richard Ground during the monthly arraignment session at Supreme Court yesterday.
A second man, Jahmel Blakeney, 28, is also accused of attempted murder in relation to the same incident. He was arrested in Bermuda after the shooting but left the Island for the US after being granted Police bail.
Blakeney was charged in his absence on April 26 and arrested at a residence in Brooklyn, New York on June 10. Prosecutors are currently seeking his extradition to Bermuda.
According to documents from the US District Court in Brooklyn, the Government has provided Blakeney with papers submitted by Bermuda in support of its extradition request.
The court will hold a case conference on August 25, when Blakeney is due to state whether or not he seeks to fight the extradition proceedings. He is currently being held in the Metropolitan Detention Center in New York.
In the meantime, Grant must return to Supreme Court on September 1 for a trial date to be set. No mention of the Blakeney case was made during his court appearance, and he was remanded into custody.

They pleaded not guilty.
Lambe and Michelle Lindsay, 49, from Devonshire, are said to have entered into an arrangement to help Cox keep the proceeds of his alleged criminal conduct. They are further accused of transferring it or removing it from Bermuda to help him avoid prosecution for drug trafficking.
Cox alone faces further charges of possessing $369,640 as the proceeds of crime, plus transferring or removing money from Bermuda to avoid prosecution for drug trafficking.
He is also accused of transferring a car and a bike, which were the alleged proceeds of his criminal conduct, for the purposes of avoiding a confiscation order. The trio pleaded not guilty to all the charges, and the Chief Justice set their trial for March 2 next year, bailing them until then.
In another case, Ezra Ezzard Williams, 25, from Cedar Park, Devonshire, is accused of unlawfully wounding Preston Mallory, 47, also from Cedar Park on February 24. Williams, who is also known as Ezra Ezzard Ararat II according to court papers, pleaded not guilty and his trial was set for November 22.
Meanwhile Premier Ewart Brown's former campaign manager, Andre Curtis, has found a lawyer, Charles Richardson, to represent him on fraud charges.
Curtis, 48, is accused of carrying on an investment business, Harvest Investment Holdings, without a licence, and providing misleading statements. He denies the allegations, but his trial was repeatedly delayed because he could not get a lawyer to represent him.
Now he's got Mr. Richardson via Legal Aid, the matter was listed yesterday to begin on October 18. Curtis, of Devonshire, remains on bail.
A total of 14 charges were also put to a 23-year-old man from Southampton parish who is accused of showing obscene films to a boy who was aged 13 at the time, and sexually exploiting him by committing lewd acts.
The accused is said to have been in a position of trust at the time of the offences in summer 2009, although no further details were given during yesterday's court hearing. Neither the defendant nor the victim can be identified for legal reasons. A trial date was fixed for January 10 next year.
The Chief Justice granted $10,000 bail on the conditions that the man reports to a Police station every day and stays away from the alleged victim.
