Six people including four teenagers were yesterday charged with drug possession.

The group was allegedly discovered with up to 1.69 grams of cocaine and four grams of cannabis at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess on Good Friday.

All six pleaded not guilty to charges in Magistrates' Court.

Erica Raynor, 37, denied knowingly permitting the misuse of a controlled drug while she was an occupant of room 563 at the hotel.

She also pleaded not guilty to permitting the handling of a controlled drug, and four counts of cannabis possession.

Temiko Wilson, 22, denied possession of cocaine and cannabis with intent of supply, and four charges of cannabis possession.

Davyrion McCalla, 19, denied possession of cocaine and cannabis with intent to supply. He also pleaded not guilty to three counts of cannabis possession.

Jahfari Raynor, 17, Sadune Raynor, 16, and Malcolm Augustus, 17, all denied three charges of possession of cannabis.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo granted each defendant bail at $5,000 and adjourned the case until April 27, when a trial date is expected to be set.

In a separate matter, Augustus pleaded guilty to several traffic offences dating back to March 18.

He admitted driving while disqualified, failing to stop, driving in a dangerous manner and speeding at 85 kph.

Crown counsel Nicole Smith said Police clocked Augustus speeding as they carried out laser speed checks in Middle Road, Devonshire.

"[An] officer attempted to cause the vehicle to stop near the junction at Parsons Lane but the driver overtook a van and then cut across the path of the van and continued along Parsons Lane.

"He looked back at the officer and began swerving back and forth along the narrow road, failing to look in the direction he was travelling."

Ms Smith said Augustus then "ignored a stop sign" and rode onto Orange Valley Road.

"Again he was looking back at the officer and was swerving back and forth. He then ignored a second stop sign and went onto Middle Road without stopping.

"He then made a sudden right turn into Tee Street, cutting across a vehicle on Middle Road. He was still travelling at a high rate of speed and looked back at the officer for a third time along Berry Hill Road."

As Augustus passed the car park at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital he collided with a car travelling in the opposite direction.

Ignoring a third stop sign, he then headed towards the Crow Lane roundabout, failing to give way, and rode into Crow Lane.

Ms Smith said: "He took the double S road and then went the wrong way on Corkscrew Hill, riding against the traffic."

Officers apprehended the defendant and arrested him for dangerous driving, speeding, failing to stop for Police, failing to stop after an accident and driving while disqualified, due to his age.

Despite being issued with five traffic offence tickets, Augustus made no reply.

Yesterday he said: "I'm sorry for what I did."

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunko fined Augustus $2,900 and issued 35 penalty points, banning him from driving all vehicles for a year.

Under amendments to the Traffic Offence Penalties Act in December, the Legislature altered the demerit points system so that motorists convicted of driving offences have their points wiped clean after receiving a ban.

Previously the slate was only wiped clean every two years. Once someone reaches 12 points their licence is revoked.
