Police for Front St. May 1, 2001

I write as a tourist to Bermuda upon the anniversary of my visit in May 1955.

I have come to Bermuda and stayed in various accommodations at least 20 times since and always I am drawn to the delightful shops on Front Street.

On this trip, for the first time ever, I was accosted -- though in a polite way -- by a "panhandler or beggar'' with the usual sob story. This is a downer and you should take steps to end it.

I looked for a Policeman but I have not seen one since I have been here. Their presence on Front Street would discourage this as well as the speeding by bikes and motor vehicles that I have observed.

Bermuda is beautiful, the people are lovely. Please keep it that way so that we want to come back.

BRUCE H. HOOPER Vellanova, Pennsylvania We need golf package May 5, 2001 Dear Sir, I refer to recent comments made by the Minister of Tourism hopefully with some constructive comments.

This is our second visit to Bermuda. We so enjoyed our stay at the Hamilton Princess -- the particular attraction for ourselves at your wonderful golf courses. I might add that many of our family and friends seek golfing facilities close by when deciding on a destination. The cost of getting here rather than on "the continent'' (i.e Europe) is of course considerable.

Whilst we are prepared for high green fees and cart hire it is the additional cost of having to take taxis. At the Hamilton Princess we had access to free golf at the Southampton Princess and transportation by ferry. (November, 1999).

I think that some kind of Golf Package would encourage more tourism, certainly from the UK This could be in the form of a free shuttle bus/green fee? Bermuda is the most physically attractive island and all the courses (not yet all sampled) are a delight to play. Selling golf has to be an aim.
