Saturday night, beating Berkeley 35-30 in a low-scoring final.
Berkeley, coached by Arnold Manders, held a one-point lead at the end of the first quarter but Saltus, coached by Tim Trott, gained the lead early in the second quarter and never trailed again although Berkeley were never far behind.
John Lee of Berkeley and Keith Caines of Saltus both got into foul trouble and were off the court for a great part of the fourth quarter, leaving Zachary Simmons and Anthony King to lead their respective sides.
Simmons kept Berkeley in the game, shooting seven for eight from the free throw line. King then took over, scoring 10 of his 17 points in the fourth quarter. Caines secured the game by sinking two free throws with seconds remaining on the clock.
CedarBridge Blue won the senior girls title over Mount St. Agnes in a heated match. CedarBridge, coached by Stacy DeShield, got off to a flying start and never looked back. Jamila Godwin, using her speed and ball handling skills to good effect, led the way, scoring 11 of her 17 points in the first quarter.
Michaelia Selvin also enjoyed a good performance, scoring 15 points for the winners while Nicola Brunson and Laura Defrias led MSA, coached by Martin Ford, with 11 and eight points respectively.
The junior varsity final was won by Saltus as Berkeley only showed up with four players, thus spoiling an undefeated season.
The Ace Insurance middle school finals were scheduled yesterday at MSA.
Warwick Academy met Whitney in the girls' final and Clearwater took on Spice Valley in the boys' match.
MOTOCROSS SCR The Pepsi National Championships are heading towards their conclusion this weekend at Coney Island with Aaron Cannonier's bid to become the first Kawasaki rider in nine years to win the 80cc class right on track.
After last weekend's racing Cannonier holds a 15-point lead over second placed Steven Panchaud, despite finishing third for the day. Panchaud, himself, is after a second title. Jimmy Lee Weaver won the day and moved up two places to third but is out of contention.
Anthony Grant broke out of a tie with Gary Cann in the 60cc class following a hat-trick of wins which increased his lead to 23 points. The competitive nature of the Coney Island track has not been kind to the smaller 50cc and 60cc bikes as Cann had mechanical failure which cut his day short. Tulio Escolastica finished second.
Aaron Pace wrapped up his fifth title in the 125 B class, but it was Otis Ingham who was the overall winner for the day. With just three points between him and Jamel Pitcher in second place, Ingham could finish the year in second place.
Ricardo Nottingham won his third straight 250 class title but now joins the other 250 riders on the injured list with a wrist injury.
Ali Hatherley had his lead in the 125 C class cut to 42 points by challenger Wentworth Tucker, but should still be guaranteed the title.
