Islanders on target in shoot-out

(St. David's win 3-1 on penalty kicks) Caked in mud and soaked to the skin, St. David's emerged victorious from this mud-wrestling Shield match at BAA Field last night, as the two Second Division teams grabbed the spotlight when the Friendship match between Somerset and North Village was hit by the weather for the third time.

Heavy rain flooded the centre of the pitch, forcing the second match to be scrapped long before the first finished.

But the Shield show went on with St. David's creating the better of the chances. They went closest to wrapping it up in the closing minutes of the second half when O.J. Minors struck the post from the edge of the box. Port Royal were also denied by the framework late in the second period of extra time as the match then went into penalty kicks.

Of Port Royal's four penalties only one was scored, by David Gibbs, as Craig Dixon, Craig Whited and Mario Foote all missed. Shea Pitcher, Patrick White and Keith Jennings scored for St. David's to clinch the semi-final place.
