Katura slips up on final dive

Diver Katura Horton-Perinchief placed eighth in the CAC Games three metre springboard in Cartagena, Colombia yesterday ? matching her result in the one metre event less than a week earlier.

Perinchief, the diving coach at George Washington University in Washington DC, was in sixth after three of her five dives. But a more complicated manoeuvre on her final attempt to secure extra points didn?t go according to plan and she was penalised heavily by the judges.

?Her first and third dives were excellent and she was looking on course to finish sixth or even higher,? said chef de mission Kris Hedges.

?But diving is one of these sports where you have to nail a more difficult attempt at some stage in order to really score well and get yourself in medal position, and Katura tried something on her final dive which she had been nailing in training but couldn?t pull it off.

?Realistically, though, it was not a bad finish ? the top four divers were in a class of their own and Katura was looking to finish somewhere between fifth and tenth out of 13 competing, so she was not too disappointed with the outcome.?

Meanwhile, Bermuda?s squash players were in action late last night against hosts Colombia in the first group game of the team competition.
