Probation for student who swore at police while drinking
A female student who swore and spat at officers has received two years’ probation.Jasmine Hendrickson, 22, admitted committing the September 22 offence when she appeared in Magistrates’ Court.Officers said they saw her outside Chewstick, on Court Street, with a beer bottle and warned her it was an offence to drink in public.Hendrickson, of Pembroke, responded by asking them where they were from. When they replied that it didn’t matter, she said: “It does matter, b***h. F**k you b***h.”She was taken to Hamilton Police Station, but continued to curse, and at one stage spat on the officers after attempting to headbutt them.Hendrickson later pleaded guilty to charges of threatening the officers and assault. She said she was very drunk at the time and didn’t completely remember the incident, but recalled feeling threatened.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner noted that Hendrickson has a prior conviction for impaired driving, saying: “It would seem she has a drinking problem.”Hendrickson told the court that she had learned her lesson and does not want to put herself or her family in the same situation again.Mr Warner sentenced Hendrickson to a two-year period of probation, and ordered that she abide by a curfew for a period of six months. She was further ordered to refrain from the use of alcohol and take any programmes recommended by Court Services.
