David's as Bermuda Karting Club continued their race series.
Renaud placed first in all three heats to extend his overall points lead to 41 over Stewart Ball.
In the Junior B Class, Tania Madeiros continued her winning ways until a mishap forced her to turn over her kart to Renaud who raced in the last heat where he again placed first, allowing Madeiros to remain as class leader over Stephen Pacheco.
The Yamaha class had a turnout of 14 karts, causing it to be split into two separate groups.
Yamaha A was dominated by Jason (Skuzzie) North who had two seconds and a first. McCannon Cassidy, the overall points leader, sustained an injury in the first heat and was forced to sit out for the second race before handing over his kart to Ray Madeiros for the third. Cassidy leads the class by 27 points over David Barboza.
The Yamaha B class was formed on the weekend because of three new drivers -- Stephen Moniz, Scott Viera and Scott Saunders -- and due to the restrictions which limit the number of karts in each class to 10. Dukey Soares and Donald Lewis have now also been placed in this class.
The 100cc Open class was controlled by Robert DeCosta who finished with two firsts and a second to maintain his lead in the class.
SQUASH SQU An overseas team challenge was held for the first time as 23 teams competed in the annual Commercial Risk Inter-Schools Tournament, which ended this week.
James Stout, David Boyce and Andrew Boyce, home for the Eater break from Cheltenham College in Gloucester, England, teamed up to score a 196-183 points victory over Steven Smith, Justin Robinson and Chris Alves.
Smith, Robinson and Alves, all formerly of Elliott School, had a 5-4 edge in games.
The Saltus combination of Laura Robinson, James Gerbl and Ross Mancell took the Division A title. The team of Andrew Stout, Richard Arnold and Iain Redford defeated their all-girl counterparts from BHS (Jessica Mitchell, Kristen Law and Anna Forbes) for second.
Three new schools in the competition took the top three places in Division B.
Whitney Institute's Stephen Johnstone, Trevor Johnstone, Tyler Dunstan and Tony Suhartoni came away with a top score of 176 points. Spice Valley were second with 164 and Berkeley third on 143.
BHS' Meghan Meredith, Jessica Harvey and Michelle Cottingham led Division C with 135 points, followed by Saltus (127) and Gilbert (108). Gilbert's second team of Rodel Halila, Steven Lambert and Jordan Smith took Division D with 148 points.
LADIES HOCKEY HOC Bluebirds came through with a clutch 2-0 victory over Orioles to claim the BLHA B Division title on the final day of the season.
Trailing front-running Swallows by a point heading into the match, Bluebirds needed a victory to take over top spot. And they got it when Ailsa Campbell and Candy Lee Foggo scored in the team's 11th victory in 20 games.
Swallows had a chance to put the league title away a day earlier only to be held to a 0-0 draw by the Bluebirds.
In the other B game, Orioles moved ahead of Canaries into fourth spot when they edged Canaries 3-2. Orioles led 2-1 at half-time and Kerry Quigley equalised before a last-minute winner.
Canaries had long ago wrapped up the A Division crown and went out in style with a 4-0 win over Orioles. Rhonda Rawlins, Sara Northcott, Emma Garon and Helen Farrington scored for Canaries, who scored a whopping 42 goals in 15 games, losing just once. Orioles defeated Bluebirds 3-1 in the only other contest.
GYMNASTICS GYM Two local gymnasts medalled in the recent Charleston Cup held in South Carolina, with Sasha Christensen finishing sixth on beam with an 8.85 score and team-mate Maria Darby finishing seventh on beam with 8.825.
A team of eight girls, competing in levels eight, nine and 10, represented Bermuda at the event with Christensen the top performer in level nine.
The next scheduled meet for the Bermuda girls is the Southern Regionals which will be held in Raleigh, North Carolina in May. This is a qualifier for the USAIGC National Championships.
