Injured teen flown off Island for treatmentA 17-year-old Pembroke teen has been flown off the Island for treatment to neck injuries after his bike collided into the back of another on Middle Road, Devonshire. The accident near the junction of Montpellier Road at around 2 p.m. left the passenger of the bike in front, a 16-year-old from Pembroke, with minor injuries but the rider of the second bike was flown out the next day for further treatment.

Man stabbed outside Champions nightclub

A 24-year-old man is in stable condition in hospital after being stabbed in his left side while standing outside Champions nightclub on Reid Street at 3 a.m. on Sunday morning.

The suspect is black, of medium build around 5ft, 8in tall and was wearing a white t-shirt. Witnesses or those with information should call Hamilton CID on 295-0011.

US visitor robbed on Pitts Bay Road

A 41-year-old American tourist was robbed of her back pack in Pitts Bay Road on Saturday night. She was climbing steps near her lodgings when the mugger grabbed her bag containing $250, a diamond ring, a digital camera and a cell phone. The dark skinned male assailant, who wore black short-sleeved shirt, black shorts and a helmet rode off on a white scooter.

Driver attacked by man hiding in van

Police have arrested a stowaway who attacked a driver after being discovered hiding in the back of his van.

The victim, a 56-year-old Smith's man, was driving his truck out of St. George's Cricket Club with a friend at 12.10 a.m. on Saturday when he noticed someone in the back.

The driver's friend got out to challenge the stowaway who, after an argument, then marched around to the front and began punching the driver in the face. The driver tried to fend off the attacker with his cane but the attacker then grabbed it and used it to break the front windscreen and side mirror before running off.

Editor pays tribute to Stanton

Royal Gazette editor Bill Zuill last night paid tribute to June Stanton who he described as great friend of the paper before her recent death. Mrs. Stanton, was the daughter of Commander Guy Ridgway, who was a director of the paper and who gave his name to the annual Ridgway awards for the best writing. Mrs. Stanton, who passed away in her 81st year, often presented the awards.

Mr. Zuill said: “She was a wonderful person and always very supportive of The Royal Gazette. Her funeral will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday at St. Paul's Church, Middle Road, Paget.
