Knights stun Storm with glorious comeback

Knights Jahkee Smith challenges for a loose ball against a Storm player.ISL action Thursday night Storm vs Knights

The Knight's victorious comeback against the Storm took the honours as the best Island Soccer League (ISL) match so far this season.

Keishon Smith's 'Spartan' Knights overturned a 4-1 half-time deficit to defeat the Storm 5-4 at the National Sports Centre (NSC) on Thursday night.

Four unanswered second-half goals, including a spectacular Vincent Minors free-kick that scorched the back of the net guided Smith's team to a thrilling victory.

"It was a real entertaining match against the Storm", said Smith.

"I would like to take my hat off to the Storm for letting me see what my team is really made of.

"We have put in a lot of work to get our physical condition at a high level and it showed in the latter stages of the match."

Antoine Russell found the back of the net twice for the Storm, with Ajani Gibbons and OJ Minors adding the other two goals to give the Storm a 4-1 half-time lead.

"At half time, I didn't say much. I just mentioned that they must remember the work they put in and believe."

"At the end of the day if you train and work hard you will get over the hump."

Unanswered goals from Jahkee Smith, Jonathan Bean, Lemuel Weeks, Kiaya Darrell and Vincent Minors got the Knights over the biggest hurdle of their season so far.

"I try to stress to my players that fitness is key", continued Smith. "Everyone knows Bermudian players have natural ability, but one thing we lack is the mindset to put in the work and train hard.

"That's what we are stressing in our camp.

"My skipper Coolridge Durham has put in a lot of work. He trains every day and leads by example for the rest of the team, both on and off the field.

"He isn't one to be out late nights, drinking and so forth. He trains hard and his work ethic shows on the pitch and how he handles himself.

"And my assistant coach Danny Durham has the guys going through their paces.

"I have the privilege to work with guys who come training ready to perform and do their jobs.

"We have time together like going to church. The pastor said that if you are correcting kids 50 per cent of the time in class what are they learning?

"So for me the same applies, because I can't teach if I am worrying about fitness.

"We must keep training hard, that's the basis of our whole programme."

In the second game of the double header the Titans defeated the Apex 6-4.

The Titans, led by a Tarik Jennings hat-trick, won a very evenly contested match.

Titans skipper Mark Steede added two goals for the Titans with Takiyah Walker adding the other.

The Apex's scorers were Vernon Tankard, Keston Lewis, Kaiwon Dill and Wolde Place.
