CableVision moving to all-digital world
CableVision will begin progressively phasing out its analogue channel line-up beginning on June 15.
General manager Jeremy Elmas said the gradual elimination of the old service, which will begin with the elimination of Cinemax and Starz! channels, will make the company?s transition to all-digital technology complete.
With cable companies around the world converting to digital service, Mr. Elmas said the move allows Cablevision to introduce more channels and new services in high-quality, digital format.
?By switching to an all-digital platform, we are able to stay on track with similar changes in the United States which directly affect Bermuda since that is where we obtain the majority of the programming we offer,? he said.
The phase out will have no impact on the company?s digital customers, however any customers still using analogue service will eventually have no choice but to convert to digital.
Cablevision is waiving its standard digital upgrade fee of $100 for analogue customers making the switch to digital, however analogue customers will pay for their digital subscription.
Analogue channels 2-13 cost $20 per month while the upgrade to the same channels in digital which adds digital music channels and two other television channels ? The Bermuda Channel and Adventist TV ? costs $30 per month. The Deluxe Tier which adds channels 14-41 ? costs $35 on analogue but is $45 on digital. The super tier ? which adds channels 42-56 ? is also $10 higher at $55 per month on digital.
Those not yet willing to upgrade to digital have the option of swapping their Cinemax or Starz! subscriptions to other channels still available on analogue. Cablevision will decrease their monthly billing accordingly.
?We will continue to make the transition to an all-digital network as smooth as possible for our customers,? said Mr. Elmas.
