Pair get trial date in 2002 manslaughter case
A trial date has been set for a pair accused of the manslaughter of an 81-year-old woman.
Laurie Julian Leroy Furbert and Carmelita Francis-Pitcher are charged with killing Gladys Smith, who died at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.
They appeared at the Supreme Court arraignments session before Puisne Judge Carlisle Greaves yesterday, where they were told that a trial date had been reserved for January 8.
The case was also listed for mention at arraignments on December 1.
A trial date was also set for a Somerset couple accused of having $200,000 worth of cocaine at their home in Seawall Drive.
Oshane Eugene Darrell and Jennifer Medeiros will face a jury on March 19 next year.
A man accused of conspiring to murder three Police officers and two other men appeared at yesterday's session.
Vernon Eugene Berkeley is alleged to have committed the offences with two others on or about November 29, 2004.
He is accused of plotting to kill Detective Sergeant Arthur Glasford, Detective Constable Terry Trott, Detective Constable Llewellyn Edwards, Sharrieff Wales and Dion Ford.
He pleaded not guilty to five counts of conspiracy to murder.
Berkeley, a Bermudian who lives in Jamaica, also denied a charge of conspiracy to defeat justice. The case was adjourned for mention on December 1.
Two men appeared at yesterday's session accused of serious sexual assault. These two men cannot be named for legal reasons.
A 41-year-old man from Pembroke, denied the offence, which he is alleged to have committed on January 1, 2003.
He was bailed until his next court appearance on November 1.
In a separate case, a 40-year-old man from Pembroke, denied committing sexual assault and threatening to use a knife on May 4. His next court appearance will be on November 1.
Ezra Ezzard Williams, 21, denied wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm and having a bladed article in a public place.
The offences are alleged to have occurred on February 2. The case was listed for mention on November 1.
Paul Lamar Smith, 36, of Scenic Heights Drive, Southampton, pleaded not guilty to robbery. He will next appear in court on November 1.
A trial date was set for Alvin Eugene Crane, of Wellington Hill, St. George's, who is accused of grievous bodily harm.
He will appear in front of a jury on January 29 next year. His bail was extended until then.
