Talks underway for new venue at the old Bootsie's

Plans to transform the former Bootsie’s Comedy Club on Front Street into a new business are already underway.Discussions are taking place to turn the two-storey property into either a restaurant or a bar “depending on what people want”.Plans are said to be in the “very preliminary stages” and no planning application has yet been submitted to Government. However, those involved in the development have applied to The Liquor Licensing Authority for a liquor licence for the 201½012 year under the name of Skylark Inn.Andrea Dismont, who is well known for running 18th century Aunt Nea’s Inn in St George’s, is behind the new business. She will manage the venue for a private landlord. Bootsie’s Comedy Club closed its doors after five-and-a-half-years as it had become a popular hangout for members of the Parkside gang.Owner Earlwin (Bootsie) Wolffe decided last month that he was no longer prepared to put the safety of his staff and customers at risk.Ms Dismont said: “We’re in the very, very preliminary stages. We are just looking at the whole concept to see what people want.“It will be a food and beverage business but we don’t know the exact details yet. Discussions are still taking place with stakeholders and those involved.”Ms Dismont added that the new business would “probably not happen anytime soon” as there was lots of work to be done, hinting the building could be empty for up to six months. However, it is hoped it can be transformed into a high-end venue as “no-one wants a repeat performance”.
