Pair deny wounding charge
A jury has been sworn to hear the trial of two Westgate inmates accused of attacking a fellow prisoner.
Kenneth Jermaine Burgess, 36, and Kamel Jamel Wendell Trott, 32, are alleged to have wounded Dennis Alma Robinson with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm on June 6, 2007.
Both have pleaded not guilty.
The jury did not hear any details about the case yesterday, but did hear Crown counsel Maria Sofianos read a list of names that may come up. The intention was to ensure that jury members do not have personal links to those persons.
In addition to prison officers, Police officers and doctors, the names of murdered twins Jahmal and Jahmil Cooper was read to the panel by Judge Charles-Etta Simmons. She did not explain their relevance to the case.
The jury of eight women and four men was then sent away until Monday morning, while lawyers in the case are involved in legal arguments.
Trott is represented by Richard Horseman, and Burgess by Elizabeth Christopher. Director of Public Prosecutions Rory Field represents the Crown, assisted by Senior Crown counsel Carrington Mahoney and Ms Sofianos.
