SOFTBALL SOF Hitters once again dominated action in the Commercial Softball League as spectators were treated to a barrage of runs during Tuesday night's action at Bernard Park.
Leading the hit parade were Business Systems and Bank of Butterfield Cougars, who combined for 37 runs, with Business Systems emerging as 20-17 victors.
John Mullen was the chief architect of the win for Systems, going four-for-five with two triples and two RBI, while Deroy Butterfield aided with two RBI from two hits.
For the losers Patrick Donnelly garnered three RBI, including a home run, as did Johnny Hasnain. Dan Kenyon was the winning pitcher, while Iwan Jones took the loss.
Earlier, the mercy rule was placed in effect as Texaco Oilers trounced J&H Heat 23-5 in five innings.
Norman Wilson, Derek Smith and Henry Scully all recorded perfect four-for-four outings as they found the offerings of J&H pitcher Laurie Dawson much to their liking. Smith also had a good night on the mound and claimed the win.
The night's other encounter saw Deloitte and Touche burn Cooper and Lines 21-14, highlighted by Doug Tufts' grand slam home run in the sixth inning.
BOWLING BOW The top teams struggled while the minnows enjoyed a rare share of success as action continued in the Miller High Life Bowling League.
Leaders Tools and Equipment, playing shorthanded, barely escaped with a share of the spoils against Marlboro, drawing 15-15, however Lite Ice were not nearly so fortunate, losing 191 -101 to Stevedoring Services.
In the first match Marlboro paid the price for some sporadic bowling and failing to take advantage of their manpower edge.
Dean Lightbourne and Calvin Basden, meanwhile, made sure that Equipment stayed in the hunt, with Lightbourne shining brightest with a 597 series.
For Ice, Henry Rawlins' top game of 240 and Reggie Saunders' 218 were not enough to halt the charge of Services led by Miles Smith's top series of 629 and 223 game, which helped the side to the top team game and series of 959 and 2,711.
In other action New Mix Ups downed team Spirit 23-7, Dr. Pepper beat Thompsons 241 -51 and Franklin Travel defeated Spoilers 26-4.
Tonight's schedule: Team Spirit v Stevedoring Services; Marlboro v Franklin Travel; Thompson's v Tools and Equipment; New Mix Ups v Spoilers; Dr. Pepper v Lite Ice.
