Pair bailed to face drugs chargesThree people were accused in Magistrates’ Court yesterday of handling money they knew came from crime.Omari Franklyn, 33, was accused of using $63,165 he knew to be the proceeds of criminal conduct between May 23, 2007 and May 22, 2010.Allana Tait, 35, and Dennisha Simmons, 31, of St Monica’s Road, Pembroke, were charged with removing $260,294 from Bermuda to assist Mr Franklyn in avoiding prosecution.Mr Franklyn, of Roberts Avenue, Pembroke, was also charged with conspiring with others not before the court to import drugs to Bermuda between a date unknown and May 22, 2010.He and Ms Tait, of Cooks Hill Road, Sandys, were further charged with possession of cannabis, a digital scale, grinder and plastic bags on May 22, 2010.They were also accused of having $127,731 that they knew represented the proceeds of crime in Devonshire on that same date.None of the accused was required to enter a plea as the charges are indictable and must be heard in Supreme Court.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner released the trio on $10,000 bail each. They were ordered to return to court on February 28.Woman fined $1,000 for using offensive wordsBad language earned a 21-year-old Warwick woman a hefty fine in Magistrates’ Court.Danielle Eatherley, of Ord Valley Lane, admitted using offensive words on January 30 after getting thrown out of a bar on Front Street.Crown counsel Maria Sofianos told the court that at 2.50pm, uniformed police officers on foot patrol heard an uproar coming from inside the bar as Eatherley was removed by security.An agitated crowd quickly gathered and when police told Eatherley to stop shouting, she told them: “F***k the police, f***k the system and f***k you.”She was arrested and taken to Hamilton Police Station.Eatherley apologised, saying she was under the influence of alcohol at the time. Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined her $1,000, to be paid by March 1.Homeless teen fined for being drunk and incapableA 19-year-old who said he got drunk in St George’s because he missed his bus was given a fine in Magistrates’ Court.Kevin Warner, of no fixed abode, admitted being drunk and incapable on January 30.Crown counsel Maria Sofianos said police found Warner lying on York Street and unable to speak at 3pm.He was helped to his feet, and taken to Southside Police Station.Asked by Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner what happened, Warner said: “I missed my bus.”He was fined $500, to be paid by March 1.Four people injured in weekend traffic accidentsFour people were injured in traffic accidents over the weekend.A car crashed into a utility pole on Cox’s Hill Road near the junction with St John’s Road at 10.45pm on Saturday.The 28-year-old Devonshire driver injured his leg.His two passengers, a 19-year-old Pembroke man and an 11-year-old Pembroke boy, received minor injuries. The car was badly damaged.In a separate incident, a 42-year-old Sandys woman was treated at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital after she was struck by a car.The accident occurred shortly before noon on Saturday, on South Road near the junction with Devil’s Hole Hill.The woman’s injuries are not said to be serious; the driver was not hurt. Police have appealed for witnesses to either incident to call 295-0011.Private car damaged in weekend fireA car caught fire on Scott’s Hill Road in Sandys over the weekend.No-one was hurt in the blaze, but the vehicle was left badly damaged.The fire was reported about 11.40am on Saturday, and extinguished by the Bermuda Fire Service.Police said there did not appear to be evidence of suspicious circumstances.Police also reported seven people arrested over the weekend, on suspicion of impaired driving.There were eight traffic collisions, three of which resulted in injury.Two burglaries were reported, with four vehicles said to be stolen.
