Rude Girls celebrate triple crown
Rude Girls confirmed themselves as the top team in women's soccer, wrapping up the triple crown yesterday with a convincing victory in the FA Cup final at the National Sports Centre.
Last year Rude Girls also won the league and FA Cup but this time they went one better by also winning the newly introduced Konica Cup at the start of the season.
Yesterday, victory was all but theirs in the first half when, with the wind at their backs, they built a 4-0 lead. Tamisha Darrell opened the scoring after 11 minutes, and Sekena Clarke made it 2-0 in the 16th minute with a smartly taken goal from a free kick.
Shivon Washington added two more in the 21st and 37th minutes to double Rude Girls' lead.
Early in the second half Tene Rabain went close with a long range shot for PHC which brought off a good save from Elisha Joell, before Tiffany Swann missed an open goal at the other end after being set up by Chevonne Furbert.
Furbert showed her how to finish when she opened her account in the 63rd minute after racing through the defence to score.
Furbert turned provider in the 79th minute when her excellent cross from the left was headed in by Washington to complete her hat-trick.
Tschana Wade prevented the shutout seven minutes from the end when she raced through to score with a low shot.
CRYSTAL PALACE FINAL St. George's 1 Somerset 1 (St. George's won 4-1 on penalties) St. George's came from a goal down in the last minute of extra-time to clinch the Crystal Palace Cup yesterday.
It didn't look like being their day when Landro Minors' challenge on goalkeeper Damon Cann resulted in the ball hitting the upright with three minutes left. Somerset, reduced to 10 men after the sending off of Leslie Trew in the 36th minute of the first half, went right upfield and scored what appeared to be the winner through Nasir Wade.
However, the never-say-die attitude of St. George's brought them back into the game in the closing seconds when Jarreau Hayward netted to send an exciting final into penalties.
The spot kicks were more one-sided as David Signor and Landro Minors scored to give St. George's the eaerly advantage after Sergio Eatherley and Shannon Raynor both blasted their efforts over the bar.
Mackie Crane converted the third for St. George's before Nasir Wade scored for Somerset. But it was all over when Gregory Johnson scored to put St. George's into an unbeatable 4-1 lead.
