Motorcycle racer Toriano Wilson posted an encouraging fifth place in the Red Bull AMA US Rookies Cup in Wisconsin over the weekend.

The seven-lap race at Road America, Elkhart Lake, was decided by a photo finish with Argentine Leandro Mercado pipping Californian Jake Gagne on Saturday.

Wilson, known as The Animal, is sixth out of 23 riders in the overall points standings after round three of the competition.

The next Rookies Cup race is on July 20 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in California.

The series, in its inaugural year, was created as a platform for showcasing young racing talent between the ages of 13 and 16, on identical KTM RC 125 machines. Seven states and six nations are represented.
