Rangers looking to stretch league lead
Belco Cup champions Southampton Rangers will look to stretch their lead atop the Premier Division 50-overs standings when they welcome Clay Smith's Cleveland County to Southampton Oval tomorrow.
Despite losing key players, Rangers continue to surpass expectations and a win over resurgent Cleveland on home soil would keep the momentum flowing as the 50-overs campaign nears the half-way stage.
Rangers stumbled last weekend when they suffered a first 50-overs loss to St.George's at the Oval. But it proved to be a minor hiccup as Janeiro Tucker's team quickly rebounded by defeating the same opposition comprehensively less than 24 hours later.
Tucker, however, knows his team-mates can ill afford to lose any further ground as the likes of defending league champs Social Club, 20/20 champions St.David's and Cleveland remain hot on their heels.
Elsewhere, Social Club are pitted against St. David's at Devonshire Rec, Somerset are at home to Police while St.George's host winless Devonshire at Wellington Oval.
Meanwhile, the Open League begins today with Willow Cuts taking on St. George's at Somerset Cricket Club, Devonshire Rec. hosting Bailey's Bay and St .David's entertaining Southampton Rangers at Lords.
Other matches see Western Stars pitted against Social Club at St.John's Field, Somerset Bridge against Flatts at White Hill Field, PHC tackling Police at Southampton Oval and Warwick playing Somerset at Police Field.
The match involving Leg Trappers and Cleveland scheduled for Wellington Oval has been postponed.
