Swimmers out in force as US Olympic coach returns
Swimming enthusiasts have responded overwhelmingly to a one-week coaching clinic by Olympic coach Nick Baker.
An estimated 100 swimmers of all ages ? ranging from active Masters to juniors ? have descended on the BASA Pool for training sessions with Baker who runs Peak Performance swim camp in Florida, USA.
The highly-reputed coach held a highly successful clinic here earlier this year and, on that basis, was invited back. His camp ends tomorrow.
?During the earlier camp we had 46 swimmers participate and the success for all was very evident during the remainder of the swim season,? said Mike Preuss, one of the organisers.
On this occasion, however, demand has necessitated that participants be split into three different groups to accommodate everyone. In total, 1600 hours of training would have been offered by the time the camp finishes.
?It?s a remarkable transformation for swimming here in Bermuda. The response has been tremendous and I only see more success for the future,? said Baker, who is optimistic of the Island qualifying more swimmers for the next Olympic Games.
