A child caregiver was charged in Magistrates' Court on Thursday for causing unlawful grievous bodily harm to a five-month-old boy.

Betty Jean Steede, 50, of Swan's Bay Road, St. George's, did not enter a plea as the charges are indictable and therefore will be heard in Supreme Court.

Crown counsel Nicole Smith told court the incident occurred on October 30, 2006 in Pembroke when the boy sustained a spiral femur fracture ? or broke his leg.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner released Steede on $2,000 bail with one surety and she is due to return to court for mention on February 22.
